For this purpose, the person has to submit the decision of a medical expert committee together with his or her written application to a county town local government. The restoration of the gender of birth can be applied for in the same manner.
Upon a change of gender, the new gender and personal identification code is entered in the Population Register. Upon the person’s wish, a new given name chosen by the person that corresponds to the gender may be entered in the register. If the gender is in accordance with the person’s national custom also reflected in the surname, the new surname of the person is also entered in the register.
Upon choosing a given name, the requirements and restrictions for given names shall be complied with.
Other data and vital statistics entries of the person who has changed his or her gender are not changed in the Population Register. This means that his or her birth entry and certificate will continue to state his or her gender of birth and the name and personal identification code assigned to him or her upon birth. In order to certify his or her identity in the future, the person must, if necessary, present a certificate of change of gender or a respective extract from the Population Register together with his or her birth certificate.
A certificate of change of gender is issued to a person immediately after the data concerning his or her change of gender have been entered in the Population Register.
No state fee has to be paid for the registration of data concerning a change of gender and for the respective initial certificate.
