Estonian presidency to discuss the Central Mediterranean migration situation at the JHA informal council
Estonia, as the incoming presidency, takes very seriously Italy’s concern regarding the number of migrants trying to find a passage to Italy. The number of incoming migrants has risen sharply during the last weeks.
The situation in Italy will be the first point on the agenda of the informal meeting of EU’s Justice and Home Affairs ministers taking place on 6th and 7th of July in Tallinn, Estonia.
Although no official decisions can be made at informal meetings, a quick solution has to be found to reduce migrant flows coming from Libya and to alleviate the situation in frontline EU member states, especially Italy.
Estonian Prime Minister Jüri Ratas confirmed at today's press conference of the College of Commissioners’ that finding a solution to the migration crisis is Estonia's priority during our presidency. "No meeting has passed without discussing migration issues and trying to find a solution to them," added Ratas.
